This means the support should:
✔️ Be related to your disability
✔️ Help you work towards the goals in your NDIS plan
✔️ Support your social and economic participation
✔️ Be value for money
✔️ Be likely to be effective and beneficial
✔️ Complement informal and mainstream supports
✔️ Be an approved NDIS support for you

Here are some ways to support yourself after the Christmas chaos:
• Expect the dip. Knowing it can happen makes it less frightening when it does.
• Re-establish gentle routines. Regular meals, sleep, movement, and structure help regulate your nervous system.
• Let the emotions come. Relief, sadness, disappointment, or grief often surface once the busyness stops.
• Avoid big decisions. The days after Christmas are not the time for life-changing choices.
• Reconnect intentionally. Choose one safe person or one grounding activity rather than trying to “bounce back” socially.
• Be mindful of alcohol and screen time. Both can intensify the emotional crash.

Christmas can be hard, and that’s okay...
Not everyone feels joyful, festive, or “merry” at this time of year.

For many people, Christmas can bring grief, overwhelm, loneliness, family tension, or reminders of past trauma.

If this season feels heavy, here are some gentle ways to get through it:

• Lower the bar. You do not need to meet anyone else’s expectations. “Good enough” is more than enough.
• Give yourself permission to grieve. Missing someone, or mourning what Christmas used to be, is valid. There is no timeline for grief.
• Create your own boundaries. It is okay to say no, leave early, limit conversations, or skip events altogether.
• Stick to grounding routines. Small anchors like a morning walk, quiet time, breathing exercises, or a familiar show can help regulate your nervous system.
• Take breaks from social media. Constant comparison can amplify feelings of loneliness or pressure.
• Focus on moments, not the whole day. You only need to get through the next hour, not the entire season at once.
• Reach out for support. You do not have to hold everything on your own.

• Lower the bar. You do not need to meet anyone else’s expectations. “Good enough” is more than enough.
• Give yourself permission to grieve. Missing someone, or mourning what Christmas used to be, is valid. There is no timeline for grief.
• Create your own boundaries. It is okay to say no, leave early, limit conversations, or skip events altogether.
• Stick to grounding routines. Small anchors like a morning walk, quiet time, breathing exercises, or a familiar show can help regulate your nervous system.
• Take breaks from social media. Constant comparison can amplify feelings of loneliness or pressure.
• Focus on moments, not the whole day. You only need to get through the next hour, not the entire season at once.

Unfiltered Mums has become such a special space and I want to say thank you to every mum who has shown up, shared, cried, laughed, supported, and just been human with each other in that room.

As many of you know, our sessions run in a shared community home. On the day we usually meet, the space will now be used for another purpose, so we’ll be pressing pause on Unfiltered Mums for now.

• One corner is the school guidance officer – offering school-based support, advocacy and daily wellbeing care.
• Another corner is the parents and family – the foundational support at home, who know their child best.
• The third corner is our Family Counsellor, Amy – who works alongside both school and home to build bridges, strengthen communication and support emotional wellbeing.

When these three parts are connected, students feel held. They don’t have to “tell it all again” each time they walk into a new space. Their support team is unified, consistent and working together.
This is what collaborative care looks like.
And it’s what we stand for.
